Main Character Descriptions!
The main characters of the story are Anne
Shirley, Matthew Cuthbert, Marilla Cuthbert, Gilbert Bythe, Diana Berry.
Anne
Shirley is a smart, stubborn, and ambitious young orphan girl that wants to
feel like she belongs somewhere. Shes hugely imaginative and sees the world full
of possibilities.
Matthew Cuthbert is an unmarried man that is frightened of women.
Matthew is extremely shy around people and he tend to work at the farm a lot
away from people, but he grew fond of Anne very quickly. At first he promised
to not interfere with Marilla parenting Anne, however when Marilla being unfair
or too stern he steps in. Anne believed Matthew was a kind-hearted man and she
always turn to him when she had troubles.
Marilla Cuthbert is an unmarried
women like her brother, in the beginning of the novel Marilla was very stern
with Anne. She would constantly criticize Anne like when Anne screamed at Ms
Rachel. Marilla although she is stern with strict rules, Anne realized that she
only did that because she loves her. As time went on Marilla began warming up
to Anne even telling her loved.
Gilbert was an intelligent young boy that
attend school with Anne. He had fallen back in school due to his father’s
illness and he was eager to catch up. As soon as Gilbert met Anne, he told her
she looked like a carrot and pulled her hair and Anne broke a slate on his
head. Ever since then they were enemies, but Gilbert tried to make amends and
saved Annie from the river she did not speak to him still.
Diana Berry become
Anne best friend who she confided into. Diana lived next door and they quickly
become fond of one another.
